BACKFLOW TESTING

Backflow is the reversal of the normal direction of water flow within a piping system. When there are cross-connections in the consumer’s water system, either actual or potential cross-connections, a substance can be introduced into the piping.

Substances that may backflow into a potable water distribution system can be prevented from entering the system through the proper application of an approved air-gap separation or any number of other approved backflow prevention devices. The state of Ohio deems irrigation as a high hazard cross connection and must have a proper backflow prevention device installed. The backflow  must be inspected on a annual basis to ensure it is functioning properly.
